Sc25: A Peculiar Story

The Jam Thief.

Here is a recorded video of how I colour for The Jam Thief.

Here are a few of my life drawings from 4th year. I do not use a sketch book as I feel restricted in them, instead I use A3 sizes toned paper. My medium that I use on most occasions are charcoal and conte. The charcoal helps me to create free flowing lines and the conte is to sharpen and define some of the bodies muscles.

Sc10: A Peculiar Story.
The light is bright however this is because of the low quality for the interest. I had difficulties in using the same layout for scene sc10 to sc11. I should have sc11 up soon. One week left of this project so I wont be uploading much work from now til then.

Ringmaster in A Peculiar Story from michael parks on Vimeo.

The Circus scene for A Peculiar story. The animation of the Ringmaster is to be in the style of a puppet with limited animation involved. It is the first time I have tried animating in After Effects, found it easier than I had imagined.

Testing a few things out.

Self Writing from michael parks on Vimeo.

A quick test of self writing in After Effects. Could be used for the title sequence for A Peculiar Story. Again I keep forgetting to tell After Effects how long I want the file to be, I dont know why I think 30 seconds is a good idea.

Sc23: A Peculiar Story from michael parks on Vimeo.

I have found Vimeo. It has a much better quality.

I have spent an hour trying to finish this scene for A Peculiar Story. It is our first scene that has been composited. I am getting the hang of After Effects now, rather enjoying it. The shadows are the biggest problem but they are worth it.

I have found the very first scene that I coloured for The Jam Thief. This seems a long time ago, looking back I see that my skill and my timing on colouring have improved.

Sc37: The Jam Thief
This scene was coloured over the Christmas holidays. With the dissertation over I could then get cracking on more colouring scenes. When I look back now I can see my speed of colouring has improved. Please forgive the random red square, I have no clue what that is. Some time in the next week or so I shall composite these scenes into After Effects, a program that I am still currently learning.

Sc36: The Jam Thief

I struggled with this scene to hand in on time because it was the time when my laptop had broken down in November. Just five weeks before hand in my lovely Mac broke. This set me back quite a bit as this was not only my work station for my animation work but it was also my workstation for my dissertation. My work was not lost however it did stop me for doing colouring work at home for six weeks or so.
Sc13: The Jam Thief. Finished scene 13. The colouring for The Jam Thief is not as straight forward as it seemed. Once I receive any scene I have to scan each frame and layer, there is no batch scanner which means this does take some time. After that it is to photoshop to straighten up the scanned frames and to begin colouring. To explain this better I shall upload a video capture of the different processes I go through to create a finished coloured scene later on. The timing of this is a little off. I composited most of the scenes in Flash, the timing is a little slow however you still see what is happening. This is only because I composited the scene in Flash and exported it as a Quicktime just to show on here. The final scene is fine. :)
Sc13: The Jam Thief.
Before I begin colouring I get given from the Director a file like the one above showing me which textures goes where on the character. With this I also get given the texture files that I will need to colour each frame. This helps a lot when colouring.
So I made this a long time ago and I have not touched it until now. I am working on two projects
during my final year of my animation honours degree.

1. A Peculiar Story.
Roles: Animator/Ink and Paint/Production Manager/Compositor.

2. The Jam Thief.
